One other note- Final Cut Pro works so smoothly on even modest Macs. None of my machines have TB3, though I'll likely get a Mac Mini soon, which should be a good solution for both my video and Pro Tools work. One side note: More current machines, with Thunderbolt 3 ports, can employ external GPU's. So if you ever intend to switch between Mac and Windows, purchase Resolve elsewhere. The real problem is that the license via the Apple Store can't be transferred to my Windows machine, but purchased from other sources, I could.
It has an OK GPU, or I can cost effectively swap graphics cards. I wanted to try Resolve on my Windows machine. Not for lack of computational horsepower, but because DR relies on your GPU, and most mainstream machines don't have high powered GPU's. But two words of caution:Īs your color grading and noise reduction gets to be more complex, the program will tax most Apple laptops. There's a reason why Davinci Resolve is so widely used for color grading in the film and video world.
